All Micro Journal models are designed and hand crafted by Un Kyu Lee. This site represents my own views and I in no official way represent Un Kyu Lee. So, opinions and mistakes here are mine and mine alone. I just truly appreciate these great machines.
This is not a setup that Un Kyu intended as one of his Micro Journals. This is literally taking 2 of Un Kyu's Micro Journals that I already own and putting them together to be used for a specific purpose. I just wanted a page to show you what I have done here and why I did it.
I write fiction. I mostly write long form fiction. Novels. For that I have selected the Micro Journal Rev 8 for drafting. But I also write short stories. When I saw the Rev 5.1 I fell in love with the red and black colorway. I already had a Rev 3 keyboard with a black and red colorway and I ordered custom black and red key caps with prints that matched what I set up in Vial. It just seemed perfect.
Why? Why create a separate Writer Deck just for my short stories? Aside from the "because I can" thing. It's another focus trick. A visually distinct signal to my brain that, ok, now we are writing short stories. And, equally, the Rev 8 signals my brain that we are working on the novel now. These kinds of cues are important when I am taking a break while drafting a novel to draft a short story. Each set up is aesthetically alluring. Also visually distinct. The tool will focus me into the correct project. And both will have a dedicated filespace for the other. If a short story idea pops up while I am working on the novel, I can quickly sketch out a note in the short story notes filespace on the Rev 8. If an idea for the novel pops up while taking a short story break, I can jot a note in the novel writing notes filespace.
And that's the thing that is so magical about what Un Kyu Lee creates. Aside from the beautiful designs, there is so much you can do to customize these great Writer Decks. They become personal. No two Micro Journals, even of the same model, ever look alike. He invites that to happen. Micro Journals are not just tools. They are something aesthetic that draws you to sit and write.
